Employer-employee relationships are premised on mutual dependence. The employer relies on the employee to do the job and keep the business running. Conversely, the employee relies upon the employer for remuneration.
The RRR vary from company to company but there exists general rules that are considered appropriate in many organizations. For example, we do not expect employers to engage in romantic conversations with their employees especially during working hours.
Developing closer relations with one colleague distorts the reliance of the entire team and the behauvior of favouritism and unfair treatment is likely to emerge in such a setting.
Business relations just like all other relationships require continuos development. Employers and employees can promote and protect their RRR by opening up to one another about their lives. Get to know about how your employees are working towards their personal development. Ask about their interests and goals.
Tell them, as their employer that. they do not work for you, instead, you are a team and you work together to achieve set goals and you would be glad to work with them in achieving their goals as well.
"The best RRR is when the employee follows the employer not because they have to but because they want to."
It takes time to develop effective employer-employee relationships. At the workplace however, employers strive to microwave mutual relations with employees and customers.
Every business owner wants to see their company grow. Employers believe the growth of their business depemds on the workforce and customer satisfaction. While this is true, employers tend to miss the mark and concentrate more on their employees than themselves.
We barely hear business owners taking responsibility and saying, 'if my company is to get better - I will have to get better'. For me, the biggest relationship challenge is establishing a RRR with myself.
"First thing you do is not to work on the people you lead, but rather work on yourself "
Employers dont cross the finish line first. Employers that have established a sustainable RRR cross the finish line with their employees at the same time.
In order to cross the finish line as a team that depends and rely on one another, team members ought to be good listeners.
